CS2 cheats are third-party programs or hardware devices that modify how Counter-Strike 2 behaves on your machine. Some give you information you're not supposed to have, like the location of enemies through walls. Others automate actions you'd normally perform manually, like aiming or shooting. A few do both at once. This guide defines every major type of CS2 cheat, explains what each one actually does, and covers how Valve's anti-cheat detects them — without the marketing hype you'll find on most cheat sites.
If you're new to the CS2 cheat scene or trying to understand what you're actually buying, this glossary is the place to start.
The Two Main Categories of CS2 Cheats
Before we get into individual cheat types, it helps to understand the fundamental split in how cheats work. Every CS2 cheat falls into one of two categories: software cheats and hardware cheats. The distinction matters because it determines how detectable the cheat is and how much it costs.
Software Cheats
Software cheats run on the same PC as CS2. They read game memory, inject code into the CS2 process, or hook into DirectX to draw overlays. Because they run on the same machine as VAC (Valve Anti-Cheat), they are detectable in principle — VAC scans your system memory and running processes for known cheat signatures. The more sophisticated software cheats use techniques like manual mapping, polymorphic code, and kernel-mode drivers to hide from VAC, but the risk is never zero.
Hardware Cheats (DMA)
Hardware cheats use a second computer connected to your main PC via a PCIe DMA (Direct Memory Access) card. The second PC reads CS2's memory directly over the PCIe bus and renders an overlay to a separate monitor or a capture card. Your main PC never runs any cheat software, so VAC has nothing to scan. DMA cheats are significantly more expensive (€300–€800 for the hardware alone) but are considered nearly undetectable when set up correctly. We cover DMA cheats in depth in a separate guide.
Aimbot
What it does
An aimbot automatically moves your crosshair to an enemy's hitbox — usually the head — and often fires for you. It's the most well-known CS2 cheat because it produces the most visible in-game advantage. A good aimbot can turn a mediocre player into a top-fragger in a single match.
How it works
Modern aimbots use several configurable parameters:
- FOV (Field of View): The angular radius around your crosshair in which the aimbot will lock onto an enemy. Smaller FOV = more legit-looking, larger FOV = more dominant.
- Smoothing: How quickly the crosshair moves to the target. Instant snaps look obviously inhuman. Smoothing spreads the movement over several frames to mimic human aim.
- Bone selection: Whether to aim at head, neck, chest, or a random hitbox. Head-only is suspicious; randomized bones across the upper body look more natural.
- Visibility check: Only aims at enemies you can actually see (not through walls). This is critical for staying under the radar.
- Humanization: Adds slight random jitter, overshoot, and reaction delay to mimic a human player's imperfect aim.
How it gets detected
VAC doesn't detect most aimbots by signature anymore. It detects them by behavior. Valve's VACnet machine learning system analyzes millions of matches and flags statistical anomalies — reaction times consistently below human threshold (under 100ms), headshot percentages above 90%, crosshair movement patterns that don't match human motor control. Once flagged, your account is added to a ban wave queue. Bans are often delayed by weeks or months, which is why cheaters sometimes think they're "undetected" right up until the ban wave hits.
Wallhack (ESP)
What it does
A wallhack — also called ESP (Extra Sensory Perception) — draws information about enemies on your screen that you wouldn't normally see. This includes enemy positions through walls, their health, their weapons, their names, and sometimes their movement direction. Wallhacks are often considered the most powerful cheat in CS2 because information advantage in a tactical shooter is enormous.
Types of ESP
- Box ESP: Draws a rectangle around each enemy's hitbox. The most common and most visible form.
- Skeleton ESP: Draws a stick figure over the enemy's actual skeletal animation. Harder to notice at a glance.
- Glow ESP: Makes enemies glow through walls, similar to the effect of seeing a teammate. Blends into the game's native visuals.
- Chams: Re-textures enemies so they stand out against the environment (e.g., bright pink models).
- Sound ESP: Displays a directional indicator when enemies make noise — footsteps, reloads, weapon switches.
Why VAC struggles to detect it
Wallhacks are pure information overlays. They don't modify your aim, your movement, or the game's memory in ways that produce statistical anomalies. A player using only a wallhack might have normal reaction times, normal headshot percentages, and normal movement — they just happen to know where everyone is. This makes wallhacks extremely difficult to detect through behavior alone. Most wallhack bans come from Overwatch (human review) rather than VACnet.
Triggerbot
What it does
A triggerbot automatically fires your weapon when your crosshair passes over an enemy. Unlike an aimbot, it doesn't move your crosshair — it just pulls the trigger for you the instant you're on target. This gives you a reaction time advantage that's impossible to match manually.
Difference from aimbot
Aimbot moves your crosshair. Triggerbot pulls the trigger. Many cheat packages combine both, so you get automatic aiming AND automatic firing. Triggerbots are usually paired with a small delay (20–80ms) to look more human.
Skin Changer
What it does
A skin changer lets you use any weapon or knife skin in the game without actually owning it. The skin is applied client-side only — other players still see the default skin, but you see your chosen skin. This is purely cosmetic and doesn't affect gameplay at all.
Why it's considered the "safest" cheat
Because skin changers don't provide any competitive advantage, Valve has historically been more lenient about them. They're technically against the Steam Subscriber Agreement, but bans for skin changers alone are rare. However, "rare" isn't "never" — and if you combine a skin changer with an aimbot, you'll get banned for the aimbot, not the skin changer.
Bunny Hop (Bhop) Script
What it does
A bhop script automatically presses the jump key at the exact right moment to maintain speed while bunny hopping. In CS2, bhop timing is measured in milliseconds, and hitting it perfectly every time is impossible for a human. A bhop script gives you perfect hops every single jump.
Why it's detectable
Perfect bhop consistency is one of the easiest statistical anomalies for VACnet to catch. Human players miss hops. Scripts don't. If you hit 100% of your bhops across dozens of matches, you'll be flagged quickly. Additionally, some servers run their own bhop-detection plugins that are more aggressive than VAC.
No-Recoil and No-Spread
What they do
In CS2, weapons have recoil patterns (your crosshair climbs in a predictable pattern as you spray) and bullet spread (shots deviate slightly from your crosshair). No-recoil removes the climb entirely. No-spread makes every bullet land exactly where your crosshair is. Both are massive advantages in spray-heavy fights.
Detection
Both produce obvious statistical anomalies. A player with zero recoil compensating for a 30-round AK spray is not human — this gets flagged quickly by VACnet and even faster by Overwatch reviewers.
Spinbot and Anti-Aim
What they do
Spinbots rapidly rotate your character's model so that enemy hitboxes become nearly impossible to hit. Anti-aim goes further — it manipulates your character's server-side orientation so that what enemies see is different from where your hitbox actually is. Both are considered "rage cheats" — used when you don't care about getting banned, only about winning the current match.
Detection
Extremely detectable. Spinbotting and anti-aim are essentially automatic Overwatch bans. They're used in casual games or on accounts the cheater is willing to lose.
DMA Cheats
DMA (Direct Memory Access) cheats use a second computer connected to your gaming PC via a PCIe card. The second PC reads CS2's memory over the PCIe bus and renders an overlay through a capture card, so your main PC has no cheat software running on it at all. This makes DMA cheats functionally invisible to VAC. They are expensive (€300–€800 for hardware plus subscription) and require technical setup, but they're the current top tier of undetectable cheating. We cover DMA cheats in full detail in our DMA cheats explained guide.
How CS2 Cheats Get Detected
Understanding detection is essential for evaluating any cheat's real safety claims. Valve uses four main detection methods in 2026.
Signature scanning
VAC scans running processes and loaded DLLs for known cheat signatures. This catches old, unmodified public cheats instantly. Modern cheats evade this by using unique builds per customer (polymorphism) or by operating entirely outside the game process (DMA).
Memory analysis
VAC examines the CS2 process's memory space for suspicious modifications — unexpected code pages, unregistered threads, hooked DirectX functions. Kernel-mode cheats use driver-level tricks to hide their modifications, and VAC has responded with its own kernel driver that scans for known driver-based cheat patterns.
Statistical analysis (VACnet)
VACnet is Valve's machine learning system. It watches millions of matches and flags player behavior that doesn't match human performance distributions — reaction time, accuracy, headshot rate, crosshair movement, and hundreds of other metrics. This is the primary detection method for aimbots, triggerbots, and no-recoil. It's not fooled by "humanization" settings for long.
Delayed ban waves
Valve doesn't ban immediately when it detects a cheat. It collects evidence for weeks or months and then bans thousands of accounts at once. This is why cheat forums are full of people claiming "still undetected after 6 months!" right up until they're hit. The delay is intentional — it prevents cheat developers from learning what got them caught.
Frequently Asked Questions
Are CS2 cheats illegal?
In most jurisdictions, using cheats for personal gameplay isn't a criminal offense — it violates Valve's terms of service, not the law. Selling cheats is a grey area that varies by country. The 2024 EU Court of Justice ruling clarified that cheat software doesn't violate game copyright, but this doesn't legalize cheating in any specific game's terms.
Can I get banned for using only a skin changer?
Technically yes, but practically rare. Skin changers don't affect gameplay and Valve has historically been lenient. That said, if you ever load an aimbot alongside it, you'll be banned for the aimbot — the skin changer is irrelevant.
What's the safest type of CS2 cheat?
Hardware DMA cheats are the safest in terms of detection, but they're expensive and technically complex. Among software cheats, a well-built private cheat with humanized aimbot settings and no rage features is significantly safer than a free public one.
Do free CS2 cheats work?
Sometimes, but rarely well. Free public cheats are usually detected within days because thousands of users run identical builds, making signature detection trivial. Many "free cheats" distributed online are also malware. We cover this in detail in our free vs paid CS2 cheats comparison.
How long until I get banned?
With public free cheats: often days to weeks. With private paid software cheats and humanized settings: months if used carefully, but never "safe forever." With properly configured DMA: potentially years, but the setup cost is high.
